I have been having problem with this iMac on some of the Os updates. Specifically, the 10.13.vi. Information technology downloads the software, runs the install programme, but when it is at the black screen with the white apple logo, the status bar gets to most the 75% (approx) level, it freezes up. I have had to restore from a Time Machine back upwardly twice in the final couple of days.
The offset time, I permit it sit over night and it never moved, the last time, I didn't bother waiting that long.
Any thought what the problem could be?
Stats: 2017 iMac, three.5 i5, purchased April 2018.
I've tried downloading the combo update and had the same matter happen,
I've tried First Aid, but running it doesn't seem to prepare annihilation. 
Some other suggestion:
Kick to net recovery (command-option-R).
And so, choose to re-install the Os.
It may re-install to 10.3.vi.
I've tried downloading the philharmonic update.
I 've tried downloading the entire Bone from the app store and installing.
I've run First Aide to no avail.
At what bespeak do I need to take this to an Apple Shop (virtually an hour away). Is there anything else I can try before making that trek?

To better your chances to go 10.13.6 (which is now the standard installer posted at Apple tree), I'd suggest that you lot exercise the following:
i. Apply either CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper to create a bootable clone of your internal drive (on an external drive). Both apps are FREE to download and apply for 30 days.
2. Unplug the cloned backup and set it aside for now
three. Boot to internet recovery
4. Open up Disk Utility and ERASE the internal drive (make sure you erase the ENTIRE bulldoze, non just the boot segmentation)
5. Quit DU and open the Os installer. Re-install the OS
half dozen. Let it boot and brainstorm setup
7. At the appropriate moment, setup assistant will ask if yous wish to migrate from another Mac or drive. Yep you desire to do this.
8. Connect the external cloned bulldoze
9. Tell setup assistant to migrate everything

I've tried what you listed in #five above, and I cannot get to my HD to make a clone of information technology. At the moment, I am reinstalling the OS via recovery mode, and if past history is any guide, I will exist restoring from a Time Machine back up.
